The Messenger is a servant of Rohen Tahir originally tasked with accompanying the recently summoned Phoenix Bearer to the city of Greyfell. First seen while warning Rohen of the impending threat of the Blades at the Wildland Pass, the Messenger sets out with the Rune Warrior through the Shadow Pass, fighting alongside her, until they reach an ambush spot laid out by the Dark One.
During this ambush, it is revealed that the Messenger was to lead the Phoenix Bearer into an ambush, whereupon he would be tasked with killing her, as well as given a casket containing the plans for an invasion, which he was to bring to the leaders of the Black Fist. However, upon engaging in combat with the Rune Warrior, the Messenger quickly met his end as he wasn't a particularly skilled combatant.
