Ur

Intro

Ur was known as the last of the great dragons and was referred as The Partiarch by the Shaikan. He had an important role in the Shaikan society, being the source of their dragon blood. Indeed, at the twelfth name consecration of a Shaikan, they would fuse their blood with Ur.

He was captured by Sorvina in the events of SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars and ultimately died in her laboratory.

Story

The Hunt

Ur was a target of the Dragon Hunters and hunted for a long time, longer than any of his kind. Despite his best effort, he was finally caught. He was bought to the court of the emperor, where he would receive the final blow from the sovereign himself. Before the execution, Janus Malacay intervened and asked the emperor to get the dragon for himself, to whom the emperor quickly approved, fearing Malacay.

The Pawn

When Hirin struck down Malacay, Ur's master ordered him to protect his work as a pawn for his life guilt. With a last spell, Malacay united his blood with Ur's, as well as his soul and essence. Since the death of his master, Ur cared for the Shaikans and shared his blood with them to perpetuate their lineage.

The Shadow Wars

After the first attack of the Pact on Shaikur, Ur sent the Soul Carrier to ask King Ulf for help to defend The Iron Fields. However the reinforcements came too late, as the army of the Pact already crushed Shaikur. Ur confronted a devourer summoned by Sorvina, Golgalath, but his fire proved useless against him. He was defeated and brought to Shal by Sorvina's magic.

At Shal, he was tortured by Sorvina, wanting to know the secret of the dragon blood and its power. The Soul Carrier came to rescue him, but it was already too late. In his final breath, Ur tasked the Soul Carrier to stop Malacay, who took possession of Sorvina's body.

Trivia

  • The prefix "ur" means primitive, original, or earliest.
  • It is unclear if Ur sent the Soul Carrier to protect Malacay's essence or to prevent him to meet Sorvina and let Malacy fuse with her.
  • Ur was thought to be the last of the great dragons, but it was discovered later that there was more of them on the Godeland continent.
  • There is an unused line of dialogue in the first cutscene with Ur. It says "Take the portal to Norimar in the Northwest. Go now and get help!".
  • Golgalath and Nightsong refers to Ur being in Sorvina's laboratory is worse than death. Golgalath says "What lies before him is worse than everything that happened to your people [who died].", while Nightsong says "I just thought that Ur's fate was merciful. Sorvina can bring worse things to a creature than just death.".

Nightsong: Before my father Craig Un'Shallach died, he gave me this - the Sigil of the Norcaine. That should suffice for a reference.

Ur: So Craig... was killed?

Nightsong: Yes. His last will was that I should warn the People of the Light against the Shadows. So I have to continue my way to the kingdom of the humans.

Ur: Yes, you will have to go there. And you, child, will accompany her!

Soul Carrier: But what about the army of the Pact? I have to help defend here!

Ur: No, child! You have to get help. Search for Baron Ortbrandt in Norimar. He'll give you an escort to get to King Ulf.

Ur: Bring your warning to the king and come back with an army that can fight against this Pact!

Ur: Et vous voulez nous prévenir ? Pourquoi devrions-nous vous faire confiance ?

Nightsong: Avant de mourir, mon père, Craig Un'Shallach, m'a donné ceci : le Sceau des Norcaine. C'est une preuve suffisante de ma bonne foi.

Ur: Craig... est mort ?

Nightsong: Oui. Ses dernières volontés ont été que j'aille prévenir les peuples de la Lumière de l'arrivée des Ombres. Je dois poursuivre ma route vers le royaume des humains.

Ur: Oui, vous devez vous y rendre. Quant à vous, mon enfant, vous l'accompagnerez !

Soul Carrier: Mais l'armée du Pacte ? Je dois aller défendre les miens !

Ur: Non, mon enfant ! Il faut trouver de l'aide et aller trouver le baron Ortbrandt en Norimar. Il fournira une escorte pour rejoindre le roi Ulf.

Ur: Allez alerter le roi et revenez ici avec une armée capable d'affronter le Pacte !

Ur: Nous tiendrons, en attendant.

Soul Carrier: Mais, Patriarche !

Ur: Ne buvez pas ce sang ! Il va prendre le contrôle de votre esprit !

Nightsong: Ja. Sein letzter Wunsch war, dass ich die Völker des Lichtes vor den Schatten warne. Ich muss also weiter in das Reich der Menschen.

Ur: Das müsst Ihr. Und du, Kind, wirst sie begleiten!

Ur: Nein, Kind! Du musst Hilfe holen. Sucht Baron Ortbrandt in Norimar auf. Er wird euch Geleit zu König Ulf geben.

Ur: Bringt dem König die Warnung und kehrt mit einem Heer wieder, das diesen Pakt zurückschlagen kann!
