‘ Only the glacier they call Frostweaver reminds us of this pact between the Elves and the most powerful of all dragons. To this day, Humans and Dwarves tell tales that the songs of Cenwen can still be heard there sometimes, in the icy wilderness of the Northeast. . ‘
~ Eleyna Songweaver „The Beginning of Time“
Cenwen is a Firstborn, ancient queen of the Elves in Finon Mir and current leader of the Ice Elves of the Winterguard in Tirganach.
During ancient times, she saved Eo from certain destruction by entering a pact with the mightiest of all Dragons, Aryn.
She currently resides at Aryn's side in the glaciers of north-east Fiara, singing for him under the ice.
Biography
Thousands of years ago, when dragons still ruled the skies, a powerful dragon was born. This dragon's might was so grand that the others of his kind ran from his presence, and so he was destined to be alone forever. The dragon, also known as Aryn, the Froastweaver, set out to find a being that would be his equal, but none were - and so he roamed across Eo, turning all land to ice. In due time, he reached the great forest Finon Mir in the south of Fiara, home of the Elves who lived below its treetops. Afraid, the Elves desperately searched for a way to escape Aryn's cold, yet it all seemed futile until Cenwen, one of the five Elven leader at the time, decided to face the dragon head on and ask him to spare her folk.
She stepped out of the forest towards the eternal ice. As the cold was penetrating to her bones, she began to sing to find comfort and warmth. Upon hearing her voice, Aryn descended from the skies above. He saw en elf kneeling in the snow - alone, but vigilantly resisting the cold.
Impressed, Aryn declared his search for an equal as finished. Cenwen was to accompany him to his glacier where they would spend an eternity together. In turn, he spared her people and bestowed upon then the power of ice magic. Through her selfless act of courage, Spring returned to Eo once more.
Aryn Crysis
Cenwen remained at Aryn's side, singing for him beneath eternal ice for thousands of years. However, this peace would be disturbed during an event known as the Aryn Crysis when a Fial Darg stole Cenwen from Aryn's side to use her Firstborn blood in a ritual that would bring back the Renegades to this world.
She was taken into The Abyss and kept prisoner by the soldiers of the Crimson Empire, eventually being rescued by the Shadow Warrior. While imprisoned, she was taken advantage of by a Norcaine named Ghul'Dan and later, after being returned to Aryn's side, gave birth to two half-blood children: Wind and Whisper.
Upon being freed from captivity, Cenwen expressed how bewildered she is by the Eo of Today. She agreed to follow Aryn millennia ago and was cut off from the happenings of the world ever since, making Eo today different from the one she sacrificed herself for. Nevertheless, she assisted the Shadow Warrior in returning her to Arny's side where she remains ever since.
Wind and Whisper
After the events of the Shadow Wars, the half blood siblings Wind and Whisper searched for answers surrounding their mysterious past. During this quest, they stumbled upon a letter written for them by Cenwen. Using a special oil, they managed to invoke Cenwen's memory from the time she was writing the letter. She informed them of their past and legacy, and encouraged them to embrace their destiny, rather than living in its shadow.
Trivia
- The first and final song of the SpellForce: Breath of Winter are sung by Cenwen and are likely the song she sang when Aryn when they first met. She also sings it to him during the ending cutscene of the game.
The lyrics to the song are written below, though they don't appear to have any official translation:
Verei cu wiru julime
Throw wohi mi cru, wohi.
Manja kheri lei worhed koro threi truh.
Manjarho gandhalei rhu freilhed,
Throw wohi mi cru, mi.
Thei mi cru thora, thei mi cru ver.
Thu ti fruhlurha, thei, wo thei.
Manjarho gandhalei rhu freilhed,
Throw wohi mi cru, mi
Thei mi cru thora, thei mi cru ver.
Thu ti fruhlurha, thei, wo thei.
Verei cu wiru julime
