Before there was a Circle to explore the hidden mysteries of this world, another organization took that mantle upon them, at least on Xu - the Zerbites. They studied the Black Jungle and its beasts, hoping to so protect their people and preserve peace. They would often venture into the unknown, collecting new knowledge and wisdom that they would then store here, deep below the Darkwind Mountains, in the Clockwork Crypts.
The Zerbites were the path Hokan Ashir took into the world of research and magic, however, as much as he had contributed to the order, he would eventually cause its downfall. Misguided by Belial, and hungry for power, he wished to acquire the Zerbite knowledge for himself, but the precautions taken by his former comrades would prove to be insurmountable for the necromancer, and so, even though he punished his brothers with eternal rest, his conquest ultimately remained fruitless.
